"Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
This is a posthumous memoir of Milly Bennett (nee Mildred Bremler), a self-described member of the Lost Generation who regarded Bolsheviks and Communists with all the determined idealism and tunnel vision of the times. Bennett's story moves from her childhood through her beginnings as a reporter in San Francisco, to more work and a failed marriage in Hawaii, to travels and reporting in China during the tumultuous Twenties. Outside of editor Grunfeld's introduction and footnotes, Bennett's later years are not developed. This is a frank, personal, choppy work that shows Bennett's gift for recalling detailed conversations. It also shows, yet again, that interesting, intelligent, independent women did not originate with the more recent women's movement. This will make a good addition to academic libraries and larger public libraries with well-developed biography or history areas.
